When you need MicroDVD output

Rarely — but when you do, nothing else works: some legacy hardware players, in-car systems and old software only accept MicroDVD .sub subtitles. The format stores each line as a pair of frame numbers, so the file is only correct for one specific frame rate.

Pick the frame rate carefully

The converter multiplies each timestamp by the frame rate you select to produce frame numbers, and writes that rate into the standard {1}{1} header so capable players read it back. Use the rate of the video you'll play it with: 23.976 fps for most films, 25 fps for PAL, 29.97 fps for NTSC. The wrong choice makes subtitles drift progressively out of sync.

Line breaks and formatting

MicroDVD is a one-line-per-cue format that uses a pipe character (|) for line breaks, and the converter handles that automatically. Styling like italics is not carried over, since MicroDVD's control codes have patchy player support. If your player also accepts SRT (nearly all modern ones do), you're better off keeping SRT — or if you need a web format, the SRT to VTT converter.
