Subtitle sync guide
How to sync subtitles in Popcorn Time
Popcorn Time can offset subtitle timing from inside the player, so you can align captions with the audio while you watch.
Works on: Windows · macOS · Linux · Android
Step by step
- 1
Open the player controls
Move the mouse during playback to reveal the control bar, then open the subtitles menu.
- 2
Open subtitle timing
Choose the subtitle / CC option and look for the timing or “offset” control (some builds label it “Subtitle timing”).
- 3
Shift earlier or later
Use the − and + controls to move subtitles in small steps until a spoken line and its caption line up.
- 4
Or pick another subtitle language/version
If the chosen track is badly off, switch to a different subtitle option — a better-timed version is often available.
Popcorn Time builds vary; if your version has no timing control, download the .srt, fix it with the SubAlign sync tool, and load it as a custom subtitle.
Fix the subtitle file permanently
The delay in Popcorn Time is only temporary. To fix the timing for good, correct the subtitle file once and it plays in sync everywhere.

Where is the subtitle timing setting in Popcorn Time?
Open the subtitles/CC menu in the player controls during playback. Most builds include a timing or offset control with − and + buttons to shift the subtitles earlier or later.
Can I load my own subtitles into Popcorn Time?
Yes — most builds let you add a custom .srt file. If it’s out of sync, correct it first with the free SubAlign sync tool so it matches the video.
